It Goes Both Ways

It Goes Both Ways

We're all too familiar with the "time, talent, treasure" trope, right? We've seen the list of lattes, gym memberships, and movie nights that we're somehow expected to swap out so that we can give more. If you're a KCRW listener or a PBS viewer—we've grown accustomed to the pledge drives that give us a different soundtrack for our morning commute.

Msgr. has been presiding at Masses for each grade in our school—outdoors in the evening. It's the first time my son Leland has been able to see his classmates in person since March 13. During the welcome, Msgr. asks each family to share with each other a moment of grace—a silver lining—that they've experienced despite this strenuous and strained time.

The silver living at St. Monica is that our mission has prepared us for moments just like this. Individuals and families face the unexpected and something very few of us could have ever predicted or prepared for. Over the last six months, you have served, supported, and sustained your fellow parishioners. Whether picking up and delivering groceries to those sheltering in place, closing the financial gap for those suddenly unemployed, or simply sharing a story or moment with those longing for connection—YOU are the silver lining. Each of you, in your own ways, has inspired this year's theme: Serve · Support · Sustain.

Over the next few weeks, I have the privilege of sharing with you how your generous support impacts this parish's lives and mission. I humbly ask that you and your family begin to pray and reflect on any silver linings you've experienced during this difficult time. This stewardship renewal goes both ways: our directors, leaders, and priests will renew that same commitment to you—we will: Serve · Support · Sustain. God bless you, and thank you for being #StillStMonica.
