Sustaining Each Other

For the past two weeks, I've been receiving training from our database solution by Blackbaud in preparation for a major upgrade next month. My seven-year-old son finds it amusing that I'm home-schooling remotely just like him. This morning he asked, "what is Blackbaud anyway?" I earnestly tried to explain philanthropy, offertory, charitable donations, and even tax codes. It's been so long since any of us put anything in a physical basket, that illustration escaped me!
"What does St. Monica do with the donations?" he asked. I explained all the amazing ways your generosity serves others and provides a beautiful place to worship. The inevitable follow-up: "I thought Dr. McCardle and Monsignor paid for everything?"
"But where do you think that money comes from?" I asked truly curious.
"Their wallet." Leland offered succinctly and moved on to his next morning task. I can't make this stuff up: an innocent and beautiful reminder that behind all that sustains this parish are people. People who serve, support, and give generously even amidst struggle. Thank you for your consistent offertory gifts that allow us to continue. If we can support you in any way—whether large or small—reach out to our clergy, me, or our pastoral staff.
