A Good and Sweet New Year

Our son has returned to school—and as school parents already know, one thing is missing: the ‘return’ part. Surprisingly, Leland is quite content in the corner of his room that we’ve transformed into a home education center. Next week, Dr. McCardle invited all elementary school parents to participate in a ritual we usually dread: the pick-up/drop-off line. Our reward is an individually wrapped doughnut from Primo's for everyone in the car. That treat, though not nutritious, satisfies a deep hunger to connect. I’ve never been more excited to sit in an endless queue of cars and enjoy that fried and glazed goodness.
I hope that our parish has likewise provided small gestures to keep you connected in these past few months. Whether taking part in virtual fellowship, Livestream Mass, receiving a call from Msgr or our ministry directors, Catholic Conversations, the novena for racial justice, or this Weekly Witness newsletter, all of this is possible because of the weekly gifts that many of you provide to sustain this parish. Whether large or small, everyone’s contributions add up to an incredible impact that reaches not only those that need it most (through COVID Response Ministry or Hope at the Door) but every-day small gestures that perhaps we took for granted in different times.
Thank you for those consistent and sustaining gifts that allow us to serve. If we can support you in any way—whether large or small—reach out to our clergy, me, or our pastoral staff. Enjoy a beautiful weekend, and as our Jewish brothers and sisters offer in celebration of their new year, “L’Shanah Tovah.”
